I recently discovered the joy of turning abundant perishable items into frozen cubes for preservation and long-lasting use!
Right before our first big cold snap of the fall I trimmed down my giant basil plant and gifted much of it to friends and then took the rest and put them in ice cube trays with a little olive oil and then into the freezer until I need basil in a recipe.
Last weekend I did the same thing with a bottle of wine I had used in a soup. A friend brought wine to dinner that we drank and I didn’t want this wine to go to waste as the week went on. So again, turned it into frozen cubes that will be great to use for sauces or soups.
Can’t wait to pull these out and use them soon!
