Goodbye May, Hello June!

Lots of fun stuff happening lately!

First off – donuts. Oh how I love donuts! The DC area is getting in on an Outer Banks beach vacation treat: Duck Donuts! These were excellent! I can see what everyone is talking about when they rave about these!

The annual PBS Memorial Day Concert on the lawn of the Capitol Building was awesome as always!

If you have never been to Harper’s Ferry, VA/MD/WV, I highly recommend it! All 3 states converge at this beautiful spot and there are historical sites, outdoor adventure activities, and much more!

I am trying to eat more veggies at lunch, I get tired of a typical salad and then realize that I end up in a rut of eating basically nothing green at lunch for weeks at a time! So this is the #summerofsalads that are of a non-traditional variety! This tasty combo below lasted the whole week and was so yummy! Strawberries, broccoli, almond slivers, get crumbles, chickpeas, and a poppyseed slaw dressing.

Last week I had the pleasure of getting to attend a VIP pre-opening dinner at Arlington’s new Tupelo Honey Cafe! Usually I hate Facebook ads, but seeing the ad was what led to getting on the list for this event!  I know this is a popular chain throughout the south and I can see why! Every single thing I ate was so tasty! Can’t wait to go back again!

Last weekend I said goodbye to May with another year of running the Virginia Wine Half Marathon. It was hot and humid but luckily overcast!

I love you, wine!

And wine tasting back at one of my fave wineries afterwards was a largest way to celebrate a great run!

Oh! And last but certainly not least! A HUGE thank you to everyone who shopped my Stella & Dot eBoutique in the month of May! Thanks to you, we were able to make a donation of $400 to Nepal earthquake relief !

That’s all for right now! Be on the lookout for another post very soon, I just finished a really great book that I can’t wait to share about!

Spring in DC just got even better!

One of the best parts of DC, in my opinion, is the fact that we get 4 solid seasons. I love them all! A couple weeks ago I shared my cherry blossom adventures and I didn’t think it could get much better than that! But it did. A friend invited me to join her on a short trip out to a tulip farm, and let me tel you, it was nothing short of magical! Only 45 minutes from DC you can find a glimpse of heaven at Burnside Farms. You can pick flowers to buy and take home or just walk amongst them and enjoy the scenery. We just wandered around and marveled at it all. So fun!

Then we headed to a winery that was only about 10 minutes away — this winery is now at the top of my list. Every wine we tried in the tasting was awesome. Usually I get through a few wines in a tasting but don’t enjoy them, but for real, every single one of these was a winner! Also, as if the delicious wine isn’t enough to convince you, how about the fact that they have this awesome made-to-order Sicilian style pizza that will blow your mind? Quattro Goombas is where it’s at, friends. And they’re opening a brewery too very soon!

Some of my favorite things from July

On this last day of July I want to share some of my favorite things from this past month!!

The DC fireworks for the 4th are always amazing. But the DC area offers something 1 week later every year, and I think most people would agree that it’s even more enjoyable — the Alexandria Birthday Celebration! It always happens the weekend after the 4th, and with easier parking, a comfy lawn, manageable crowds, free cupcakes, and an up close and personal view while listening to the live music by the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra…well you almost just can’t even compare the 2. So I got to spend the evening in the company of some great friends. And made Key Lime White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cake Mix bars (what a title!).

Cherries. Seriously. So good. Picked these up at a farmer’s market and ate them all in a couple days.

Some people eat a lot of burgers off the grill in the summer, or maybe BBQ chicken…me? I’m eating loads of prosciutto. 🙂 this grilled cheese was such a winner. Yum yum yum. Egg, prosciutto and a little Gouda.

(And more prosciutto)

The new fall 2014 collection from Stella & Dot — more on that to come!

Seeing corporate office spaces I’ve designed be almost near completion! Love putting things on paper and seeing them come to life.

Mango sparkling wine!!

Conscious Boxes!! Seriously, this is like the best of all worlds for delivery boxes. There are some snacks, some beauty care, some nutrition, recipes, the best chocolate bars ever, and it’s all great for your body. I’m so glad I tried it out on a Living Social deal. I have 1 box left in my subscription and will be sad to see it be over!

Getting a trip home to FL to spend time with my family! More on that soon too 🙂

That’s just a little snippet of some fun things from July!

My 30th birthday!

Now that I’m 2 months into being 30, it might be time to finally post the awesomeness that was my 30th birthday party!! To cap off the week of festivities, I had a bunch of girlfriends over and we had a Girl Scout Cookie & wine pairing party! Such a great time! My bestie, Laura, took care of all the details — she even made adorable personalized labels for mini wine bottle party favors and made buttons to look like Girl Scout patches to commemorate everyone’s solid effort and participation in the eating of cookies and drinking of wine. Then it was all topped off with a Samoa-inspired birthday cake! I am so blessed! Hope the next 10 months of 30 are as great as the past 2!

Winter Apple Cider Sangria

I had a little Stella & Dot holiday sample sale and cocktail party at my house on Friday night and wanted a fun and simple cocktail that I could easily toss together in a pitcher and not have to make individual drinks.

-1 bottle pinot Grigio
-1 bottle sparkling apple cider (found this at Trader Joes– if you can’t it, sub ginger ale, sprite, or club soda with a little extra sugar syrup)
-1 cup apple cider
-1-2 tbsp simple syrup
-2 cups fresh cranberries
-1 Bartlett pear, diced with skin on
-1 Gala apple, diced with skin on
-1 Granny Smith apple, diced with skin on
-2-3 sprigs of fresh rosemary

Combine the liquids and mix well, then add in the fruit and rosemary and refrigerate until ready to serve over ice!
